1.3912, also known as Invar 36, is an austenitic alloy composed of about 61% iron and 36% nickel, with the balance including silicon, sulfur, phosphorus, manganese, cobalt, chromium, and carbon. This grade is known for its exceptionally low thermal expansion, excellent ductility and toughness, and strong mechanical properties at low temperatures. Cold working can further decrease its thermal expansion. It is ferromagnetic below its Curie temperature, but becomes non-magnetic at higher temperatures.
Evek GmbH is your trusted supplier for 1.3912. We ensure our customers receive top-quality nickel alloys at competitive prices.
Invar 36 is widely used in facilities for producing, storing, and transporting liquefied gases. It is also found in measuring and control devices, such as thermostats for temperatures below 200 °C. Other common uses include:
- Manufacturing OLED screens;
- Aircraft construction (for CFRP parts);
- Satellite construction (frames, mounts, and housings for electronic control units);
- Optical and laser systems (support elements for electromagnetic lenses);
- Cryogenic components;
- The automotive industry (various components).
Key properties of Invar 36 include:
- Very low thermal expansion;
- High ductility and toughness;
- Good strength at low temperatures;
- Suitable for cold working;
- Ferromagnetic below Curie temperature;
- Non-magnetic above Curie temperature.
