1.3912, also known as Invar 36, is an austenitic alloy made up of about 61% iron and 36% nickel, with the balance being silicon, sulfur, phosphorus, manganese, cobalt, chromium, and carbon. This grade is known for its very low thermal expansion, excellent ductility and toughness, and good strength even at low temperatures. Cold forming can further reduce its thermal expansion. Below its Curie temperature, Invar 36 is ferromagnetic, while it becomes non-magnetic at higher temperatures.
Evek GmbH is your trusted supplier of 1.3912, offering high-quality nickel alloys at competitive prices.
Invar 36 is widely used in equipment for the production, storage, and transportation of liquefied gases. It's also popular in measuring and control devices, such as thermostats for temperature readings below 200°C. Other key applications include:
- OLED display manufacturing;
- Aircraft construction (especially CFRP components);
- Satellite engineering (frames, brackets, and housings for electronic systems);
- Optical and laser systems (support structures for electromagnetic lenses);
- Cryogenic components;
- Automotive industry parts.
Key properties of Invar 36 include:
- Very low thermal expansion;
- High ductility and toughness;
- Good strength at low temperatures;
- Can be cold formed;
- Ferromagnetic below the Curie temperature;
- Non-magnetic above the Curie temperature.
