Super Invar® is an enhanced version of the traditional Invar alloy, in which cobalt partially substitutes for nickel in the iron-nickel composition. This modification gives the alloy a nearly zero coefficient of thermal expansion at moderate temperatures.
The alloy can be processed using standard machining methods, similar to regular Invar. It forms long, thread-like chips that need to be broken up during machining. Super Invar® is known for its “rubbery” texture rather than hardness; therefore, positive feed and low speeds are recommended. The material is highly ductile, allowing it to be shaped and formed using conventional techniques. It can also be welded and cold-formed with standard procedures.
Super Invar® is ideal for use in precision instruments where maximum accuracy and dimensional stability are critical, even when temperatures fluctuate.
