Super Invar® is a modification of the Invar alloy that contains cobalt to replace some of the nickel in this iron-nickel alloy. This modified composition results in a coefficient of thermal expansion that is close to zero at moderate temperatures.

The alloy can be machined in the conventional way - essentially in the same way as the invar alloy. The alloy produces long, thread-like chips that have to be broken. It is known to be "rubbery", not hard. Positive feed and low speeds are recommended. This alloy is ductile and can be formed by all conventional methods. The alloy is weldable by conventional methods. Cold forming by conventional means is possible due to the good ductility of the alloy.

Super Invar® is used in precision measuring instruments where extreme accuracy and dimensional stability are required under temperature fluctuations.
