1.3912, also known as Invar 36, is an austenitic alloy made up of approximately 61% iron and 36% nickel, with the balance consisting of silicon, sulphur, phosphorus, manganese, cobalt, chromium, and carbon. This alloy is known for its low coefficient of thermal expansion, as well as excellent ductility and toughness. Invar 36 retains good strength even at low temperatures, and its thermal expansion can be further decreased through cold forming. Below the Curie temperature, it is ferromagnetic; above this temperature, it becomes non-magnetic.
Evek GmbH is your trusted supplier for 1.3912 tubes. We offer high-quality nickel-based alloys at competitive prices.
Invar 36 is widely used in the manufacturing, storage, and transportation of liquefied gases, as well as in measurement and control devices. It is commonly used for making thermostats that operate below 200°C. Other typical applications include:
- Production of OLED displays
- Aircraft construction (CFRP components)
- Satellite manufacturing (frames, brackets, and housings for electronic control units)
- Optical and laser systems (support elements for electromagnetic lenses)
- Cryogenic components
- Automotive industry components
Main properties of Invar 36 include:
- Very low thermal expansion
- High ductility and toughness
- Good strength at low temperatures
- Cold formable
- Ferromagnetic below the Curie temperature
- Non-magnetic above the Curie temperature
