Material 1.4742 is a heat-resistant chromium steel alloyed with aluminum, featuring a ferritic structure. It is designed for use at high temperatures, especially for components not subjected to heavy loads. This steel withstands temperatures up to 1050℃ in air and offers excellent resistance to sulfur-rich environments and reducing gases.
It provides good machinability and outstanding resistance to carburizing gases at low temperatures.
Thanks to its low or absent nickel content, 1.4742 is cost-effective and has a ferritic structure, making it suitable for cold working and welding. Additional heat treatments in the 750-800°C range with air cooling are possible. Note: the steel becomes brittle between 450-530°C.
Typical uses for grade 1.4742 include burner components, furnace and reactor parts, furnace pipe caps, heat-resistant boiler parts, heater supports, and various applications in the plastics and cement industries, including plastic dryers and machine components.
