Material 1.4547 is a highly alloyed, austenitic stainless steel with elevated levels of nickel, chromium, and molybdenum. Thanks to its high molybdenum content, it offers exceptional resistance to corrosion, making it ideal for demanding environments like seawater. It stands out for its durability in halogen-rich conditions, such as exposure to hydrochloric and contaminated sulfuric acids. Compared to standard stainless steels, 1.4547 delivers superior corrosion resistance and mechanical strength, and is highly resistant to pitting and crevice corrosion.
Generally non-magnetic, 1.4547 may develop slight magnetism after cold working or welding, as is common with many stainless steels. It is especially suited for applications where extreme corrosion resistance is needed, such as components exposed to salt water, food and chemical processing plants, cellulose processing, sulfur filtration and purification, oil and gas platforms, and brine treatment facilities.
