904L stainless steel, also known by its designations 1.4539, X1NiCrMoCu25-20-5 (EN standard), or UNS S08904, is renowned for its outstanding resistance to corrosion. Its high content of nickel, molybdenum, and chromium, along with other alloying elements, makes it exceptionally durable in corrosive environments. When 904L is not sufficient, only nickel or titanium alloys offer better resistance. Additionally, 904L stainless steel is almost non-magnetic, making it ideal for applications where low magnetism is required. The low carbon content further boosts its corrosion resistance.
While 904L is not the strongest stainless steel and doesn't offer high mechanical strength, it is valued for its corrosion resistance.
