Description:
The chemical composition of the aluminum-scandium master alloy is 2% scandium and the remainder 99.7% aluminum. The master alloy is used to add scandium to Al-Mg-Zr-containing alloys that are used in the form of sheets and plates. These sheets and plates are mainly used by aircraft manufacturers. Alloys containing aluminum-scandium combine high strength, ductility, weldability, improved corrosion resistance, and lower density (due to the magnesium in the alloy). The combination of all these properties makes aluminum-scandium-containing alloys extremely suitable for the aerospace industry.
Areas of application:
- Aluminum-scandium alloys can be used in the form of sheets and plates for aerospace applications. Other uses for aluminum-scandium alloys include blades for windmills and sporting goods such as bicycle frames, baseball bats, and golf clubs.
