Chromium is a transition metal with atomic number 24 from the chromium group. It is hard and tough, easy to form and forge. Chromium metal shows excellent corrosion resistance and is antiferromagnetic. It is soluble in hydrochloric acid and sulphuric acid. However, the dissolution of the metal does not occur instantaneously, but after the protective oxide layer has been removed. Hydrogen is generated during the dissolution of chromium.

Chrome metal and its compounds are used in a wide variety of industrial sectors:
