Molybdenum is a transition metal known for its exceptional strength, hardness, and toughness. It is easily formed and processed, offering the highest melting point among metals in the 5th period. Molybdenum is resistant to non-oxidizing acids and remains stable in oxidizing alkali melts. However, it is soluble in oxidizing acids like concentrated sulfuric or nitric acid, as well as aqua regia. Thanks to an oxide layer, molybdenum is stable in air.
