The material 1.4841 belongs to the class of austenitic stainless steels due to its high nickel content. It is referred to as a material with high temperature resistance because the phase structure does not change at high operating temperatures and room temperature, making it suitable for such applications. A high nickel and chromium content also ensures high corrosion resistance.

Oxidation resistance is increased by the silicon content of 1.5 - 2.00% to about 1150°C (in air). This type of stainless steel is well suited for welding, forging, and cold forming.

The temperature range for forming the material AISI 314 is from 980 °C to 1150 °C. Preheating or post-weld heat treatment is generally not necessary for welding. Common methods for this grade are TIG, MIG, and arc welding.
