The material 1.4841 belongs to the class of austenitic stainless steels due to its high nickel content. It is called a material with high temperature resistance because the phase structure does not change at high operating temperatures and room temperature and is suitable for such applications. High nickel and chromium content also provides high corrosion resistance.

Scale resistance is increased by the silicon content of 1.5 - 2.00% to about 1150°C (in air). This stainless steel grade is well suited for welding, forging and cold forming.

The temperature range for forming of the AISI 314 material is from 980°C to 1150°C. Normally, neither preheating nor post-weld heat treatment is required for welding. Common methods for the grade are TIG, MIG and arc welding.
