Titanium Grade 5 3.7165 is a high-strength, widely used titanium alloy with the addition of aluminum (5.5 - 6.75%) and vanadium (3.5 - 4.5%). The material is highly resistant to a wide range of corrosive media. It has high strength and good toughness and good weldability. The welding electrodes offered consist of titanium (main component), aluminum and vanadium (additional alloying elements) and have been specially developed for welding titanium alloys such as 3.7161, 3.7164, 3.7165. The welding rods are standardized according to AWS ER Ti 5.

In contrast to steel, titanium is significantly more robust and therefore more difficult to weld. Titanium welding should only be carried out without oxygen. Welding processes in an inert gas atmosphere such as TIG and MIG are suitable for oxygen-free welding of titanium. Resistance welding can also be used. For DIY enthusiasts, however, it may be more sensible and easier to consider brazing (especially silver brazing) as a good alternative to welding. Cleaning and descaling of the welding surfaces is essential before soldering.
