The material 1.4550 is a stainless steel that is resistant in the heat-treated condition and after a sensitizing heat treatment against intercrystalline corrosion. In terms of specification, it is related to grade 1H18N9T, but it is distinguished by higher oxidation resistance. Steel products are deep-drawable and fully weldable. The grade does not require additional heat treatment after welding.

Grade 1.4550 is used in the chemical industry for the production of nitric acid and derivatives, salts and fertilizers. The AISI 347 material is also used in cryogenics, the pharmaceutical industry, and the food industry—in food processing plants, dairies, sugar factories, breweries, in the fuel industry, in refineries, and in petrochemical plants.
