Pure beryllium is a very light, solid and brittle metal. With a density of 1.85 g/cm3, beryllium is the second-lightest elemental metal after lithium.

The gray metal is valued as an alloying element because of its high melting point, creep and shear strength, as well as its high tensile and bending strength. Although beryllium weighs only about a quarter as much as steel, it is six times as strong.

Like aluminum, beryllium metal forms an oxide layer on its surface, making it corrosion-resistant. The metal is non-magnetic and spark-free—properties appreciated in the oil and gas industry—and has high thermal conductivity over a wide temperature range, as well as excellent heat dissipation characteristics.

Beryllium is available in the Evek GmbH online shop. Various rare-earth metals are offered at a good price.

The low X-ray absorption cross-section and the high neutron scattering cross-section of beryllium make it ideal for X-ray windows and as a neutron reflector and moderator in nuclear applications.

Despite its sweet taste, beryllium is corrosive to tissue and, if inhaled, can lead to a chronic, life-threatening allergic disease known as berylliosis.

Beryllium is used in:

  • Consumer electronics and telecommunications;
  • Industrial components and commercial aerospace;
  • Defense and the military;
  • Medical devices.

Beryllium has the following properties:

  • Beryllium is a grayish-white metal with a non-magnetic, hard and brittle surface;
  • With a density of 1.85 g/cm3, beryllium is relatively light;
  • Due to its low density and high thermal conductivity, beryllium is excellently suited for use in buildings.

Buy beryllium through Evek GmbH, the competent supplier for high-purity rare-earth metals.
