Alumel wire is produced from a magnetic nickel-based alloy consisting of approx. 93-96% nickel, 1.8-2.5% aluminium, 1.8-2.2% manganese and 0.8-1.2% silicon. This alloy is ductile and remains strong over time. It is used as the negative leg of the thermocouple.
