20h2n4a is an alloyed chromium-nickel steel. This type of steel belongs to the structural steel category. The material designation 12xh3a means:

• 20 - 0.20% carbon content;
• H2 - about 2% chromium;
• N4 - about 4% nickel;
• А - steel quality very high.

The material has excellent plastic deformability in combination with high core toughness. The high surface hardness enables use with high shock and impact loads and at low temperatures. The material is poorly weldable. In order to achieve optimal welding results, preheating to 200-300 °C is required. After welding, heat treatment by annealing is necessary.
