Description:
The chemical composition of the aluminium-scandium master alloy is 2% scandium and the remainder 99.7% aluminium. The pre-alloy is used to add scandium to Al-Mg-Zr-containing alloys, which are used in the form of sheets and plates. These sheets and plates are mainly used by aircraft manufacturers. Aluminium-scandium-containing alloys combine high strength, ductility, weldability, improved corrosion resistance, and a lower density (due to the magnesium in the alloy). The combination of all these properties makes aluminium-scandium-containing alloys highly suitable for the aerospace industry.
Areas of application:
Aluminium-scandium alloys can be used in the form of sheets and plates for aerospace applications. Other applications for aluminium-scandium alloys include sheets for wind turbines and sports equipment such as bicycle frames, baseball bats, and golf clubs.
