Neodymium is a rare-earth metal from the lanthanoid group. It is relatively stable in air, but the metal can be covered with an oxide film that flakes off in air. With water, neodymium reacts, producing hydrogen and neodymium hydroxide. At 150 °C, neodymium burns to neodymium(III) oxide.
