Babbitt is characterized by low hardness and also has low tensile and compressive strength. For this reason, this bearing metal is protected in plain bearings by a support shell made of steel or bronze. Babbitt bearing metal WM 80 consists of 83% tin, 11% antimony, and 6% copper. It is used in plain bearings for medium stress and in mechanisms with high speed (1000 rpm). Babbitt white metal WM 80 has a melting point of 370 °C and a compressive strength in the range of 10-15 Pm. It is well resistant to abrasion and corrosion and has excellent thermal conductivity.
