Niobium is a rare heavy metal, part of the transition metals and in the vanadium group. Due to its low hardness, it can be processed well, e.g., forged. The metal has a very high melting point, high ductility at room temperature, and can easily absorb gases. In air, it is very resistant and is not attacked by most acids at room temperature. Niobium is also unstable in hot alkalis. Niobium powder has pyrophoric properties. Niobium metal has good biocompatibility.
Niobium price is fair in the Evek GmbH online shop. We maintain close contact with our customers and will be very pleased to receive your inquiry.
Niobium is mainly used as an alloying additive. Thus, niobium increases the strength and toughness of stainless steel alloys. Alloys of niobium and zirconium are used to clad nuclear fuel rods. Niobium-titanium alloys are used for the production of permanent magnets. Niobium metal is also used to manufacture jewelry items and, because of its biocompatibility, for implants.
Niobium has a wide range of applications in various industrial fields:
- as an alloying additive for steel and non-ferrous alloys;
- for the manufacture of jewelry items;
- for coating surfaces in implants;
- in bimetal coins;
- as a catalyst in hydrochloric acid production.
Niobium is characterized by the following properties:
- low hardness and high ductility;
- very high melting point;
- good processing properties;
- resistance to most acids;
- insensitivity to hot alkalis;
- good biocompatibility.
