Chromium is a transition metal with atomic number 24 from the chromium group. It is hard and tough, and it can be formed and forged well. Chromium metal shows excellent corrosion resistance and is antiferromagnetic. It is soluble in hydrochloric acid and sulfuric acid. However, the metal does not dissolve immediately, but only after the protective oxide layer is removed. During the dissolution of chromium, hydrogen is produced.
