AZ31B is undoubtedly the most widely used magnesium grade and is produced in a variety of forms, from sheets and plates to rods. Due to its high strength-to-weight ratio, it is often used as an alternative to aluminum alloys. However, caution is advised when machining this alloy, as the chips and powder can be flammable.

This alloy is also characterized by very good strength and ductility at room temperature, excellent thermal conductivity, high corrosion resistance, excellent weldability, and high recyclability. The exceptional dimensional stability allows for the production of very complex components.
