1.3912 (Invar 36) is an austenitic alloy composed mainly of about 61% iron and 36% nickel, with the remainder including silicon, sulfur, phosphorus, manganese, cobalt, chromium, and carbon. This alloy is known for its very low thermal expansion, along with excellent ductility and toughness. Invar 36 maintains good strength at low temperatures, and its thermal expansion can be further reduced through cold working. Below the Curie temperature, it is ferromagnetic; at higher temperatures, it becomes non-magnetic.
