Soft brass is an alloy of copper and zinc. It may also contain small amounts of other alloying elements to provide beneficial properties. Brass has high corrosion resistance and high tensile strength. CW508L is an alpha alloy. Alpha alloys are ductile and cold formable.

CW508L material is a high purity brass for cold forming. It is used when high bending properties are required. It can be machined, but only at low speeds and very low feed rates.

Soft brass wire has good resistance to water, water vapor, various salt solutions and many organic liquids. However, under certain conditions (water with high CI content and low carbonate hardness) corrosion may occur in the form of "dezincification".

Due to its homogeneous microstructure, CW508L material is readily formable. The alloy is therefore suitable for deep drawing, spinning, drawing, stamping and bending without spalling.
